Music

At Our Saviour, we provide an opportunity for every student to enjoy, learn and grow through Music. Music has many benefits for children and our students are actively involved in music at all levels. Our Specialist Music Teacher conducts lessons each week in our Music Centre for all classes in a graduated program of experimentation, participation and performance. In Junior Primary classes this includes learning the range of instruments and music styles, basic music and theory concepts and learning to compose and perform a simple piece of music. In Upper Primary students write and play their own compositions, research the historical background to music, learn how music relates to society and perform in a variety of mediums, including visits to local Kindergartens to present their own Puppet plays.

Students’ active participation in Music enhances their ability to think, learn, reason and create and we offer many opportunities for that involvement to occur, particularly for students from Years 3-7.

Private tuition is offered on site by qualified instructors who encourage children’s skill development and appreciation of music in a variety of forms. All students who learn an instrument are encouraged to join our own School Band whose musical talents are regularly showcased at official School functions, worship services, concerts and performances. For those students whose preferred instrument is voice, our Choir provides opportunity to learn music, teamwork and performance skills in an atmosphere of fun and encouragement. Our Choir is a frequent feature at regular School worship services, a variety of school functions as well as in the wider community as they visit local Retirement Villages and Shopping Centres.
